Preemptively fired by Elon Musk
Tragedy is when the techno-fascist coup inconviences me personally.
I was offered a role as an engineer with the Federal Governments R&D program called 10x on January, I dunno, 8th or something. This is a program I really am excited about, a team doing the work that I firmly believe needs to get done to help people and make our country work better.
Instead of receiving information on how to get my prints taken for a background check, I had a call with a nice HR person on January 22nd who said basically “we have no idea what the fuck is happening”. A couple of weeks later and my job offer was formally rescinded. A week after that and Musk is actively engaging in what appears to be a techno-fascist coup. Now he and his Hitler-youth wanabees have all my person information, SSN, this site, my address, everything. They probably have the notes from my interviews. If this goes away look for Error 451.
My own experience is one of inconvenience – essentially another final round rejection – but it’s a real consequence. Friends currently at Federal agencies who coached me through this and gave me valuable advice are being hit worse. Family who work on public health science are being hit worse. The consequences of this coup are rolling out, rippling from the most harmed to the merely irrated. I don’t know what happens next, but I’m taking Dan Sinker’s advice and writing it down now.
